Holiday Party

This year’s party was a knock-out! On behalf of the community, the Board would like to thank the Social Committee (and its helpers!) for hosting another terrific event!

Fire Safety

As a reminder to all, the following reminders are to improve fire safety for the building:

·         Never hang anything on fire sprinklers or associated pipes.

·         Don’t paint fire sprinklers

·         Ensure a 16-inch gap between objects and a fire sprinkler – especially important in closets containing sprinklers

·         Don’t disconnect smoke detectors. If a detector is making noise, it needs a new battery (see this bulletin for details), needs to be cleaned (see this bulletin for details) or it needs to be replaced (see this bulletin for details).

Hallway Carpet and Paint Project

As communicated earlier, the Board approved new paint, carpet, and other updates for the resident hallways on floors 1 thru 14. The project schedule currently shows the following target installation schedule:

·          New artwork in garage elevator lobbies, adjacent to floor numbers: Done

·         Stain condo front door thresholds: Reviewing

Note: Dates are subject to vendors’ schedules. Current schedule information is displayed in the left side of the Mail Room glass case.

Fitness Room Refresh Project

As described in the context of the Hallway Refresh Project, the Board intends to refresh common areas in phases. The Board has chosen the Fitness Room for the next refresh. More information regarding the Fitness Room Refresh project will be shared as it becomes available.

Better TV picture / lower cost ?

If a better TV picture and lower TV costs appeal to you, you may want to use Alicante’s roof antenna to view local channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, etc.). This article gives a technical explanation of how a TV picture from a broadcast signal (off the air) can be better than a TV picture from cable. And this bulletin describes how you can connect to Alicante’s roof antenna to get local channels – in High Definition – for no monthly cost.

Sports-Free TV

If you don’t follow sports, but like other channels typically found on cable, the Philo streaming service may be for you. The service starts at $16/month. Channels on the new service include A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, BBC America, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Food Network, HGTV, HISTORY, Investigation Discovery (ID), IFC, Lifetime, MTV, Nickelodeon, TLC, Travel Channel and others. The service includes a DVR, plus on-demand programming.  For more info, look here and here.

Enjoy Theater – at Home?!

If you enjoy plays, musicals, dance performances, etc., you may enjoy watching the productions at home via streaming TV (many with closed captioning): BroadwayHD, Cennarium, Shakespeare from the Stratford Festival, etc. This article has related information.

Switching from a Cox Bundle

Did you know you can get local TV channels for no monthly cost using Alicante’s TV antenna system? Are you curious about streaming TV (Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, DirecTV Now, etc.)? Do you know several telecom companies provide service to Alicante: Cox, ATT, Webpass? Given these options, it’s possible to switch from Cox. One resident switched and saved ~ $1000/year. For more information on your telecom options, and for steps for switching off a Cox bundle, you may want to take a look at this bulletin: Alicante OMC – Switching from a Cox bundle.
