Safety First
The Safety Committee would like to remind all residents of the following things you can do to improve building safety:
- Do not leave any valuable possessions visible inside your vehicles
- All vehicle windshield tags must be securely attached to the vehicle window or portable tags must be removed from the vehicle to prevent theft.
- Please pause at top of the garage exit ramp when exiting and wait until the vehicle gate closes. In addition, please pause at the bottom of the ramp when entering the garage to make sure that no other vehicle or pedestrian is entering the garage.
And if you see something please report it to Hugo Munoz the Alicante General Manager at hmunoz@actionlife.com
Did you know that flushable wipes are not actually flushable?
Toilet paper is specifically designed to disintegrate in water. Wet wipes, even those labeled “flushable”, are made from synthetic or natural fibers that are woven or bonded together to stay strong — even when wet. That’s what makes them feel thick and durable in your hand. Unfortunately, that durability doesn’t go away once they enter the pipes. Once inside the sewer system they accumulate. They tangle together and catch on pipe joints and debris. Plumbers report that wipes are one of the most common culprits in residential sewer backups.
Some wipes carry certifications from industry groups stating they meet “flushability” standards. The problem is that those standards were largely written by the same industry that makes and sells the wipes. As of October 2021 California requires all manufacturers of diaper, cleaning and cosmetic wipes to display clear “Do Not Flush” warnings on their packages but still the myth that these wipes are flushable persists.
The good news is that you don’t have to give up your wipes — just change where they end up. Toss used wipes in the trash can. It takes about two seconds and protects Alicante’s pipes.
